Tuesday's Tips

Studies show and I believe that parents have the most influence in their children's lives.  Still in order to influence our children we must talk to them.  I ask questions every chance I get...in the car, watching television, and especially at the dinner table.  It is not easy to find days to have a meal together, but I have a personal goal for my family.  Three to four times a week I try to find a time to sit together and eat.  This looks different each day.  Mondays and Tuesdays we don't eat until late because of football practice.  Thursdays our meal is a little more involved because we have more time and no practices.  Sundays is the day we go all out.  I would love to say that these are set in stone, but everything around our house must be flexible.  After all there are two teens living here.

I have learned that family dinner changes as my children get older.  Sometimes we eat later than I would like, but the time together is worth it.  For me the point is to reconnect, discuss what happened during the day, share with each other.  Jesus shared many meals with the disciples and others as well.  The sacred act of communion began with Jesus eating with friends.

Tuesdays on the blog will be a day for tips.  You will find ideas, parenting tips, books I love, and recipes that work for us.  Today I share a recipe I learned in my home economics class in high school.  It is a great one for kids to make all by themselves...well almost.

Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 jar spaghetti or pizza sauce
1 pkg mozarella cheese
I pkg english muffins

Brown ground beef and drain.  Stir in spaghetti or pizza sauce and heat through.  Cut english muffins in half and place on a cookie sheet.  Toast english muffins in the oven.  Top muffins with meat sauce and cheese.  Place back in an oven set at 350 degrees.  Bake for 5-10 minutes until cheese is melted.
