My family and I wandered last weekend. We got a chance to go to College Station and show our kids a few things. As we got in the truck that morning, we started towards the first place my husband and I lived in as a married couple. We pointed out the things that had changed. Jeff, he was kind of like a tour guide through our lives before we had kids, and it made me smile. As we headed towards another place we had lived I thought..."they don't care about these places." From the back seat my youngest says..."Mom, now I know why you like to live in the country. This place doesn't have a yard!" The funny thing was...the kids were interested. They asked questions about the places, what our lives were like, what we did. We laughed and talked. We stopped by my campus favorites.
We ate my favorite nachos at the Chicken Oil Company, bought t-shirts, and had a really great time.
I wonder would it be interesting to your kids to wander to some place from your past, a place that means something to you. Maybe where you grew up...went to school...caught your first fish. Maybe you can't physically go there but you could show the kids pictures or videos. Kids love to hear the stories and see where we come from. For me it was a reminder of how much God has done in our lives...how blessed we truly are.
