A Children's Sermon for This Grown Up

I wander into the church earlier than usual on Sunday wishing I had a great idea for children's sermon.  I thought about it during the week.  It was my first thought when I opened my eyes Sunday morning.    But honestly I had nothin'.

I turn the corner and there she is.  That cute little blonde playing with a friend on the steps.  The two are talking and I greet them and she introduces me to her friend.

"She spent the night with me," she says, "and I brought her to church."

I walk away with those words bouncing around in my head, and I realize this is my subject for children's sermon.

This weekend took me places filled with lots of  people.  A community shopping event, visiting with cousins, church and a birthday party...all filled with the children of God.  I kept thinking...where would I find Jesus in these places?  If he were here in the physical body...what would I see him up to?

The Bible is clear that Jesus did a lot of hanging out...getting to know people.  He didn't just talk at them telling them what they should and should not do, but he talked to them.  He was their friend.

My four year old friend at church knows the secret.  The secret of fulfilling the Great Commission of bringing others to Jesus.  Somehow as we get older, we make it harder than it really is.  We worry about what the person will think...if we will offend them.  We wait until everything is lined up just right or just give up all together.

Bringing others to Jesus does not have to be that hard.  I heard it said one time it is just three steps:
Make a friend.
                 Be a friend.
                                  Bring a friend to Christ.

That's what my young friend did this week.  If she can do it...we can too.
