Coming to Lakeview is a lot like these verses. Like Moses we choose to take time out of our normal routines and come to a sacred spot. Like Moses, we will hear God call our names this week. Like Moses, many of us will answer. Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, “I will go over and see this strange sight—why the bush does not burn up.” When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!”
And Moses said, “Here I am.”
“Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” 6 Then he said, “I am the God of your father,[a] the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” At this, Moses hid his face, because he was afraid to look at God.--Exodus 3: 1-5
This week's theme is "I Am". It comes from the place in Exodus where God says, "I AM WHO I AM." I love that. Make no mistake about it Moses. I know who you are and I know who I am. So you go, even though you don't think you can and take Aaron with you because you stutter. Just do what I AM asks you to do.
As we near the end of the first day I feel that gentle nudging to pray for those who came to camp. Maybe you could join me from home with prayers of your own.
Lord, thank you for each one who has abandoned their life's routine to come here. May they hear you Lord call them each by name. May they recognize that even if they don't see it yet...you have a plan for them. Help them learn who you are and who they are in you. More that anything Lord I ask that they follow you in the way that Moses did. That they trust that you are the Great I AM...amen.
The stars are shining bright tonight and crickets are chirping a beautiful song. And like Moses, I am finally taking off my shoes. So for now...lights out.
