You are the Light of the World!

Jesus said it to the crowds He was teaching.  I told the kids last night there under the pavilion...

You are the light of the world!

I encouraged them to be light in the darkness...to shine bright.  And boy, did they.  They chose their work teams and off they went to pick up littler and remove graffiti.  One group of boys calls it confetti.

Scrubbing the play structure took lots of elbow grease and bubbles.

Two little girls stood at the top with sponges.  One asked, "Why are we doing this?"  The other answered, "It makes us better people."  I laughed...but I guess in a way it does.  It opens our hearts and minds to others needs.

When Jesus told the crowd to light up the world, he was talking to people of all ages and stages of their lives.  He didn't mean you would have to wait until your were grown up.  Kids of all ages worked hard picking up littler and sticks.

Some put a fresh coat of paint on barbeque pits and some served snow cones.
The youngest team on littler patrol was finishing up their work when the birthday boy says, "We are the best UM ARMY litter team!"  That army just left Jacksonville not too long ago.  Teenagers from the Houston area were working in our community building wheel chair ramps and helping out those in need.  When we encourage our children to serve, it becomes a part of who they are.

We'll be shining our light again tonight.  Join us at the church (First United Methodist Church) for snack supper and a mission activity that will  help kids in our nation.
