"I wish we could give the kids bibles this year."
I didn't spend more time on it, partly because I was waiting for the coffee to clear my morning mind, but mainly because it would take half of our budget.
It was two months later when she walked in the shop...came close to the counter and says...
"I was visiting with one of the children that comes to mini-Methodists this week. When I asked her what her favorite part of school was she says..."mini-Methodist."
Stacy, I want to give bibles to the mini-Methodist. How many do you need? Two weeks later I walk into an office stacked with boxes of bibles and was overcome by one thought, "this is a miracle". It is something I say often on Wednesdays when the halls get quiet again and I consider this ministry God has given me the privilege to be a part of.
Every volunteer that enters with a smile to serve our kids...a miracle.
Every bus ride and snack served...every ball thrown and bandage...a miracle.
Every moment we get to share God's love...share his word...a miracle.
But this one was over the top. It was like God saying, "check out what I can do". I am still amazed that a prayer expressed in a tiny thought became reality.
One of my favorite Psalms says,
Take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.--Ps. 37:4My one desire when it comes to kids at First Methodist, the desire I know every adult involved shares along with me, is to teach God's word. Week in, week out, that's what we do. It's who we are.
Honestly, I wonder what draws them each week. There's no hype...no fancy productions...no prizes...no puppets or magic tricks. Just people who love God sharing his love with others. If you think about it that's just what Jesus did. It's what he still does today.
I can't think of anything better this week before Easter than to place bibles in the hands of the children in our church and community.
I believe it changes lives...changes families...changes communities...changes the whole wide world!
