Five Days of Devotion

Keeping focused is  a little tough during this season.  Trying to stay focused on the reason we celebrate is something we must be intentional about.

I wish I could say my family is very focused and serious about our family devotions.  We light the candles of the advent wreath and I begin to read.  Dad gets distracted in the heat of the candles.  The youngest is laughing at the middle.

Is this how we honor God in the season.  My face cracks into a smile...yep, it is.  Tis the season to laugh and giggle.  A time to express the joy we have in a new born king.

A close friend wrote a devotional for the kids in her family and she has kindly let me borrow it. I hope you will consider using it to keep your family focused.  It would make a great supper discussion or gather those babies around the tree at the day's end and use it to remind them of what is coming.  I'll warn you now, it will not go as planned.  There will be smiling and giggling...there will be distractions of all kinds.  Smile laugh and keep going.

"...so is my word that goes out from my mouth:  It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it."--Isaiah 55: 11

 Day 1's Devotion

Mary

“I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May it be to me as you have
said.”

Luke 1:38

Mary was a young woman, a teenager really, who loved God. God loved her too and sent an
angel to her. He wanted to ask her to do a very important job for Him.

God asked Mary to be the mother of His Son.  The angel and the question all came as a big surprise to Mary. She had a plan for her life. She was engaged to be married, but didn’t have a husband yet. She didn’t understand how she could have a baby without a husband.

God told her that the Holy Spirit would give her the Son. It would be a supernatural
pregnancy.

Mary said  “Yes” to God. She trusted God with the purpose He had for her.

You were created with a purpose too!
Ask God to prepare you to say “Yes” to Him.
Read about Mary for yourself in the Bible: Luke 1:26-38
