Summer's Resolution

I fold clothes as we prepare for a house full of company to celebrate the one graduating.  Thinking about eighteen years on the day she was born...it seemed like forever.  Today on the other side...it was just a moment.  And I wonder did I get it right?  Did I prepare her for the world she will shortly enter?

I walk around the corner and there she sits at the family table, her tattered bible open...papers laying across the table.  I breath deep because maybe I got just one thing right.  All the sighs at supper when I pulled out the devotionals...the times I would speak God's word to her when we discussed life's circumstances and the eyes would roll.  The gallons of gas it took to go to youth group and back...the dollars to send her to mission trips and camps.  Could it be that all these things worked together to teach the one thing...the only thing she really needs to go out into the world.  The tattered pages of her bible whisper that she is ready...even though I am not.  And so I dive deep into the pages of my own bible because that's what my momma taught me...and the one thing I want to pass on to mine.

Love and hunger for God's word doesn't just happen, but it is the one thing we parents can give our children that lasts a lifetime.  I go to straighten my room for the  company that is less than an hour away, and I decide to challenge you to join me.  A sort of summer's resolution to be even more intentional about raising our children to seek God in His word.  Throughout the summer you will find ideas posted here on how to make God's word central to parenting.  They come from my own passion and experience with my very own three.

Want to get started or continue what you have begun?  It all begins with you.  We cannot lead our own where we are not willing to go.  Our own passions, and loves, by nature just seep into our children.  Let's cultivate a passion for God's word.  Let's read it and study it and memorize it.  Where we lead...they will follow.

Do you need a starting point?  Here are a few of my favorites at the moment.

A Holy Experience
This blog just keeps me going.  A daily read I rarely miss and her book One Thousand Gifts will rock your world.

Jeremiah's Menu
My dear friend writes this one.  Her grasp of God's word always inspires me.  You can sign up to get an e-mail each day.

Jesus Calling
This little book is packed with daily readings that often pierce me through and through.  A great way to begin the day.

There are so many tools that are out there to help us get into the Bible.  Do you have a good one you would like to share here?  Just leave your idea right there in the comments box at the bottom of the page.
