A Way Prepared...

Mondays are special.  (I can hear some of you groaning.)  Monday is the day I am privileged to worship with three and four year olds.  Today their sweet voices filled the halls with praise as they sang (and some shouted) rejoice!  We talked about Jesus being alive again.  About how he told his disciples He was going to prepare a place for us.  A song came to mind that I taught them this year.  And so we sing...come and go with me to my father's house...a big, big house with lots and lots of room.

Don't let your hearts be troubled.  Trust in God, and trust also in me.  There is more than enough room in my Father's home.  If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you?  When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.  And you know the way to where I am going.--John 14: 1-4

If you read further Thomas speaks bluntly, "No we don't Lord.  We have no idea where you are going, so how can we know the way?"

Right there in the midst of preschoolers I was reminded of the exact purpose of the Children's Ministry here at FUMC.  The only reason we sing silly songs, teach kids to dance, round them up on Wednesdays in vans and buses.  The one reason adults and teens show up to play ukulele, help with homework, and jump rope.  The reason we serve hundreds of snacks and teach bible lessons to rowdy youngsters bouncing in their chairs.

One reason and one reason only...to show them the Way.  That way has a name...Jesus.
