New Beginnings...

It feels a bit risky to take what God inspires and put it into action. Today we take a big step of faith and begin launching what we believe God is leading us to do. Over the last two years, mini-Methodists has grown in a way that leaves no more room for growth. So we gathered a leadership team and began meeting in January to discuss ways to address the hurdles we were facing and expand ministries in a way that would provide room for growth.

Our new plan moves us from two age group ministries to three.

mini-Methodists will serve children kindergarten through fourth grade. We will still provide transportation from all elementary schools in JISD and Brookhill School. Children who do not attend one of these schools are invited to participate if parents bring them to the church. Children in this age group will take part in age level Bible classes and options. Options are special interest classes children second through fourth grade choose for the semester. These include music, games, outdoor play, sewing, button art, food pantry and more.

Junior UMY is a new group being formed this year to meet the needs of kids fifth through eighth grade. Our gym will open at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays for parents who have children in both age groups to pick up and drop off at the same time. JUMY kids will eat a snack supper, participate in Bible class, and group games. Fifth and sixth graders will benefit from the new program by having an increased amount of time in church and curriculum better suited to their age level. We are also considering transportation from JMS and Nichols at 4:45 pm for students who have extra curricular activities. Again, students entering fifth through eighth grade will meet on Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Senior UMY will move their meeting from Wednesdays to Sundays from 5:00-7:00. SHUMY includes students in ninth through twelfth grade. This new time will allow students involved in extra-curricular activities to attend. It also provides flexibility to expand the types of activities students can participate in. SHUMY will focus on biblical studies, life application, and missions.

Many have been asking about registration. In conjunction with the new program, we are also implementing a new registration process for children and youth. The first step is to create an account in our KidCheck program. The link below provides the information needed to begin the process of creating your account. It takes about five minutes. Creating your account does not register your student. Registration begins Monday, June 24, 2017, for individual age group ministries. Creating your account allows parents to register children.
