Apostle's Creed

For the six weeks of Lent we will be exploring the Apostle's Creed. The Apostle's Creed was not written by the apostles themselves. It is a statement of faith based on the teachings of the apostles. Though believers may disagree in some areas, this creed holds the basic beliefs of the Christian faith.

United Methodists as well as many churches recite the Apostle's Creed in worship. We will be exploring these beliefs during the season of Lent. I hope you will discuss what we are learning on Wednesdays with your children. Faith forming conversations help our children to grow and become grounded in the beliefs we want to pass on to them.

Just a note... many have asked what exactly one of the last statements in the creed means.
"I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church".

The word catholic in the Apostle's Creed is referring to the Body of Christ, the entire church, not a specific denomination.
